2011 "The Illusionist" Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

The 2011 Illusionist is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot and was aged for 23 months in 56% new French oak and 44% seasoned French oak barrels. We used a combination of Phinny Hill Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills, RMV Vineyard on Red Mtn., and Scooteney Flats Vineyard, also on Red Mtn. It shows classic aromas and flavors of both red and black cherries, cassis, tobacco, chocolate, and herbs. Texturally, the wine is rich yet vibrant, with exceptional length on the finish. We imagine this wine will age beautifully for the next 12-15 years. Only 575 cases of this wine were produced

A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot that comes mostly from Red Mountain, but also includes a small portion from Phinny Hill, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon The Illusionist saw 23 months in 56% new French oak prior to bottling. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, rich and layered, with beautiful precision and focus on the finish, it gives up classic crushed rock-like minerality, dark currant and raspberry fruit, licorice, leather and liquid smoke on the nose. This almost-pure Cabernet includes grapes sourced from Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills vineyards. The structure is gorgeous—massive yet precise—with a steely spine, great concentration and supple, mixed black fruits. A streak of lead pencil and a hint of toast contribute further complexity. Delicious already, this will reward cellaring through 2025.  — Paul Gregutt
