Jeb Dunnuck:
Coming from the north fork of the Walla Walla River, the 2018 Spiders from Mars spent 22 months in neutral French oak. Its ruby'purple hue is followed by a Cornas-like nose of ripe black fruits, iron, beef blood, peppered meat, and liquid violets. Rich, concentrated, and structured, it has a great mid-palate, lots of tannins, and one heck of a great finish. Outside of Cornas, it's as close to Clape as you can get from outside of France! - 96+ points
Wine Advocate:
The 2018 Spiders From Mars comes from the Ziggy Stardust block at Elevation Vineyard. An instant success, exploding with the aromas of floral, red-berried fruit tones that are interlaid with potpourri spice, umami and savory tones that waft out of the glass with seductive floral tones of dusty violets and lavendar. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is subtly spiced with cherry skin, dusty cranberry and lingering flavors of cured meat. The wine is impeccably balanced with plenty of years ahead of it. Only 1400 bottles were filled. Made from 100% whole cluster Syrah, the wine aged for 22 months in neutral French oak barrels. It's dangerouslly good right now. 95
Owen Bargreen:
This outstanding, one of a kind Syrah bottling is sourced from the Ziggy Stardust Block of the Elevation Vineyard which is set on broken basalt. Aged on the lees for 22 months in entirely used French oak this underweight 100% whole cluster fermentation. Showing off a deep core, this opens with shades of iodine and green peppercorns that mingle with Umami, creosote and cigar ash. The complex and novel aromatics bring you back to the glass for more delight. The soft mouthfeel here really entices as a deep core of dark fruits mingle with crushed wet gravel, blood orange zest, scorched earth, fresh thyme and smoky minerals. With more air the dark fruits become more rich and pronounced. The length is exceedingly gratifying. Spectacular to enjoy in its youth, this is the best ‘Spiders From Mars’ Syrah to date that is highly novel, complex and delicious to savor in its youth. Drink 2020-2030- 94
