Vine(yl) Club #6 - Copper Trees

Sharing new music with friends is one of the most rewarding experiences for me. This club has been such a great outlet to spread the love of music. It’s even more rewarding when the music you are sharing was made by a friend. Our 6th release for the Sleight of Hand Cellars VINE(YL) Club is just that. I’d love to introduce you to the beautiful music from The Copper Trees.

The Copper Trees consist of Eric Lilavois and Kate Neckel. I’ve known Eric for a number of years, first meeting him at the Pearl Jam warehouse, and discovered that Eric was one of the partners at London Bridge Studios (Pearl Jam, Temple of The Dog, Mother Love Bone, Alice in Chains, etc.). Eric is one of the nicest guys in the business, and has always been so generous with his time, especially when it comes to touring the studio. I never get tired of sitting at the same piano where Andrew Wood played Crown of Thorns. Eric is also an incredible guitar player and singer, and has a long career as a touring musician.

Kate’s journey to the Copper Trees is quite different than Eric’s! What makes this band unique is that music is not Kate’s primary discipline of art…. She’s a painter turned musician, thanks in large part to her friend (and customer), Mike McCready (yes, THAT Mike McCready). In 2019, Kate and Mike collaborated on an interactive art and music exhibition called Infinite Color and Sound, and they had a very limited run of live shows that merged her world of art and Mike’s world of music. Kate met Eric at one of the shows, and, well…the rest is history as they say.

I was fortunate enough to be able to virtually sit down with both Eric and Kate last month to talk about the album, the process of writing the songs, the challenges that were faced, and the final product, which is this gorgeous album you are now holding in your hands! Rather than blabber on and on about what a beautiful piece of wax this album is, please grab a glass of your favorite Sleight of Hand wine and watch this fun interview with Eric and Kate. And don’t forget to check out the other videos on our YouTube channel while you’re there!

Thanks again for being part of this amazing community of music and vinyl lovers. I truly appreciate you all and can’t wait to source some more amazing music for your ears!

Cheers!

Trey
